‘Our Oceans Challenge’ innovation competition deadline extended

“Our Oceans Challenge” (OOC) is generating a groundswell of ideas for solving key issues affecting responsible ocean industry operations. A growing number of ocean entrepreneurs from across the globe are submitting business concepts.
OOC organizers have extended the deadline for submitting initial ideas to 1 August 2014 to accommodate the growing number of submissions and to give solution-providers worldwide a better chance to participate in the competition.
Solution concepts must be submitted online by August 1st at www.ouroceanschallenge.org
Even if you don’t have a solution to propose, stakeholders and experts are invited to join the online discussions on the challenge themes or provide expert feedback on specific proposals. Or simply log in to vote for your favorite idea.
The initial OOC themes developed by the WOC and the coalition of leadership companies organizing the competition include:
▪ Addressing the need for port reception facilities.
▪ Optimizing the use of vessels and structures for collecting ocean data.
▪ Avoiding or minimizing the impact of marine sound from construction and industry operations.
▪ Avoiding or minimizing the impact of sedimentation from seabed disturbance due to construction, dredging or mining.
After the 1 August 2014 close of the first Call to Action phase, the most promising concepts will be matched to the OOC partner network and will receive customized business development support.
Our Oceans Challenge (OOC) – a business idea competition to solicit solutions for pressing industry sustainability concerns – was catalyzed by one of the newest WOC members, Heerema Marine Contractors. WOC is working with the OOC alliance to provide a global platform and outreach to ocean industry stakeholders and entrepreneurs around the world.
