Torqueedo partners with conservation groups for River Rally

Doing its part to protect the world’s waters, electric motor manufacturer Torqeedo partnered with River Network and Waterkeeper Alliance to bring 700 clean water advocates from around the world together in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for River Rally. Participants came from 40 US states and 19 countries for four days of education, motivation and camaraderie that gave them new tools to help clean up their local waterways.

River Rally participants were treated to sea trials aboard two environmentally friendly vessels: a catamaran powered by twin Cruise 4.0 9.9 hp equivalent electric motors and a skiff boasting Torqeedo’s groundbreaking 40 hp Deep Blue system. The boats also supported a kayak and land-based river cleanup that removed 1,000 lbs. of trash from the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio Rivers. A fitting thank you to their host city, participants from as far away as China took the opportunity to get out on the water and get dirty, removing tires, drums, furniture and countless plastic bottles from the areas surrounding The Point State Park, providing a cleaner, healthier and more beautiful start to summer activities on the Three Rivers.

“We were honored to support River Rally 2014,” said Steve Trkla, president of Torqeedo, Inc. “These leaders make a difference every day in their local communities and in the health of the world’s waters. They understand the importance of conserving our natural resources while preserving recreational opportunities on the water, a balance that electric-powered boats provide. It’s a natural partnership.”
