MBIA Announces recipients of 2013 Lighthouse Awards

Livonia, Mich. — December 2, 2013 — MBIA honored four great contributors to the marine industry with prestigious Lighthouse Awards in appreciation for their extraordinary efforts throughout the year.

Josh Gunn of Michigan Sea Grant is being recognized for his achievements and dedication to the Michigan Clean Marina Program. His dedication and continuous efforts to promote and enhance the program have gone beyond the scope, and MBIA appreciates this effort.

Bret Marr and Ray Underwood of Muchmore Harrington Smalley and Assoc. are being recognized for their tireless efforts to achieve the successful passage into law of Sales Tax on the Difference for boats and automobiles in Michigan. Because of their lobbying, diligence and determination, Michigan will no longer be at a competitive disadvantage with its neighboring states when it comes to watercraft sales.

Bill Rustem, Director of Strategy to Governor Snyder, is being recognized for his leadership and support of Michigan’s boating industry. Earlier in 2013, Rustem was a key leader in gaining state and federal funding in an unprecedented movement of legislation for dredging of Michigan’s waterways. At a time of crisis for many industries in the state, including recreational boating, our state and federal legislators came together to provide relief with dredging funds.

The Michigan Boating Industries Association created the “Lighthouse Award” in 2004 in order to recognize individuals for their dedication and contributions to the industry. For a full list of past recipients, visit www.mbia.org.
