RICHMOND, VA (November 26, 2013) – The Virginia Marine Trades Association (VMTA) recently held its third Annual Meeting at the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences (VIMS) in Gloucester Point on Wednesday, November 13th. VMTA’s Annual Meeting is the Commonwealth’s only trade association meeting dedicated solely to the recreational boating industry. Members and other marine businesses come from all over the state to attend this annual event.

“One of our biggest focuses as an organization each year is the Annual Meeting in the fall,” says VMTA’s President Keith Ruse. “We work hard to put together a stellar lineup so we can ensure that attendees walk away from the meeting both energized and full of useful information that can help them in their business. This meeting is probably one of the biggest benefits of membership in VMTA.”

The meeting’s entire agenda was devoted to returning value to member businesses. This included presentations from the Department of Game & Inland Fisheries about Virginia’s new boat titling laws. An expert on social media talked about using Facebook in marketing efforts. One of the most popular sessions was a panel of local sales professionals who shared some of their successes in the marine business. Tom Murray of VIMS also presented the latest information about the trends and potential challenges to the recreational boating industry in Virginia.

Finally, VMTA elected its officers and Board of Directors for
2013 – 2014. Keith Ruse of Deltaville Boatyard was elected President, Don McCann of Tranquil Waters Marine Services was elected Vice-President, and Ernest Asaff of Norview Marina was elected Secretary/Treasurer. Mark Hildebrandt, Valvtect Marine Fuel, rounds out the officers as Immediate Past President. The Board members for 2013 – 2014 are as follows.

Brian Baker, Vinings Marine Group

Earle Hall, Bluewater Yacht Sales
