Warren, Rhode Island—The International Marina Institute (IMI), the training subsidiary of the Association of Marina Industries (AMI), has added a tour of 31st Street Harbor in Chicago to supplement this fall’s 2013 Marina Makeover: An Interactive Experience. The tour will take place on Saturday, November 16, just prior to the two-day workshop, scheduled for November 16–17, 2013, at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare.

Marina Makeover, which is open to everyone, is based on the same proven methods IMI uses in its Advanced Marina Management courses to train hundreds of Certified Marina Managers (CMMs) worldwide. Guided by a workshop facilitator along with marina industry professionals and vendors, Marina Makeover participants will choose one of five existing marina facilities from different parts of the United States and work in groups to perform a case study analyzing all aspects of the property. Through intensive group discussion focusing on marina redesign and operations, participants will provide ideas for improvement and prepare a presentation to share with other groups at the workshop. This is IMI’s second Marina Makeover workshop.

The new optional tour, scheduled for Saturday, November 16, from 10:00 am–12:00 pm, stops at 31st Street Harbor, the newest and most anticipated addition to the Chicago harbor system. Completed in 2012 with slips for 1,000 boats, the 31st Street Harbor is LEED Gold Certified and was just named Illinois’ first Clean Marina.

The tour is included for all participants who register for Marina Makeover. Transportation will be provided and will depart from the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare at 10:00 am. The tour will arrive back at the hotel at 12:00 pm. The Marina Makeover workshop will begin at 1:00 pm.

Can’t make the tour? No need to worry. Scott Stevenson of Westrec Marinas will deliver a presentation on the 31st Street Harbor Project during the Marina Makeover workshop. He’ll discuss the eco friendly aspects of the design, and issues for consideration when building or redesigning a marina.
