Boater David Henneberry's unexpectedly found himself in the news last week when Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev used his boat as a hiding place.

After the boat was severely damaged during Tsarnaev’s capture, a fundraising effort was launched urging people to donate money to repair the boat. Now, a pledge of a matching donation from Brunswick Corp.’s Boston Whaler brand. has helped that effort reach its $50,000 goal. The company is also making an additional contribution to a fund supporting the victims of the Boston bombings.

Henneberry has said in earlier interviews that he’d prefer the money being donated for his boat go instead to bombing victims.

“We at Brunswick also support whatever decision Mr. Henneberry makes regarding the money raised on Crowdtilt,” Boston Whaler posted on its Facebook page. “We encourage all those concerned to direct any further donations to as well. Our thoughts are with David, all those directly affected by the Boston bombings, the city of Boston and the nation as a whole.”
