Powerboat sales grow for second straight month

MIAMI – Sales of 15-foot or greater powerboats showed positive growth in September for the second straight month after almost six years of negative growth, according to Info-Link Technologies Inc.’s Bellwether Report. The report provides a rolling 12-month year-over-year percent change in unit sales and has been updated through September.

Outboard boat sales rose to 5.1 percent growth.

Sterndrive/jet boat sales, which have been declining less rapidly in recent months, were down approximately 4 percent. Unit sales of ski boats were down 5 percent. Personal Watercraft were down roughly 6 percent. Sportfishing outboard boat unit sales were down around 3 percent.

While down, each of these categories have been decreasing more slowly than the double-digit losses they were facing a year ago and appear to be moving toward stability.

The Bellwether Report is based on new U.S. boat registrations in geographically dispersed states representing roughly half of the U.S. boat market.
