Grand River may be fined by OSHA
CLEVELAND – The federal government has proposed $130,200 in fines against a yacht designer and manufacturer Novis Marine Ltd., which now goes by the name Grand River Composites, for alleged “willful, serious and repeat violations of federal workplace safety standards,” Crain’s Cleveland Business reported in a recent story.
In a statement released last week, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced the proposed fine against Novis Marine Ltd. OSHA said its investigation, opened last August, “resulted in one willful citation for fall hazards associated with open-sided floors and platforms, 23 alleged serious violations involving electrical and fire hazards, lack of personal protective equipment and stair railings, machine guarding and training deficiencies,” Crain’s reported.
Brad Mitchell, an OSHA spokesman in Chicago, said the company has 15 business days to comply with the proposed fine, to request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director or to contest the citations before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission, according to the story.
A phone message left with a Grand River Composites executive was not immediately returned, Crain’s reported.
