Yes, we are real people, and we can prove it

mike_mugnew1By Mike Davin, Online Editor, Boating Industry — A year ago, had you ever tweeted? Boating Industry hadn’t, though now it’s a big part of how we share breaking news.

We hadn’t launched this blog yet either (that happened in March) or our Facebook page (April) or our LinkedIn group (April again). Actually, it’s been a pretty big year for us and our online social circle, and we hope the expanded offerings have made it easier for you to communicate with us and your fellow marine industry members.

We also hope the new Web relationships carry over when a big chunk of our online social network meets up offline at next week’s Marine Dealer Conference & Expo.

We’ve been sharing thoughts, opinions, and personal stories about the marine industry for months now. So have many of you, and we thank all of you who’ve reached out, through comments and tweets and posts. Now we’d like to continue the conversation in person.

For my part, despite having the word “online” in my job title, the Internet is not the only place I want to hear from readers. I hope those of you who will be at MDCE will feel as free to share your opinions with me in person as you do on the Web. Given all the new things we’ve tried this year, I’m pretty anxious to hear what you think. And I know that goes for Liz, Jon, Matt, and the rest of the BI team as well. Some of you have met us and others haven’t, but you see our faces next to every post we write, so we should be easy to spot.

Of course, just because we’ll be available in person doesn’t mean we’ll be giving up on the Internet during the conference. We’ll still be tweeting and posting news, as always. And for those who can’t make it to Orlando, we’re just as interested in your thoughts as ever, so please keep sharing them as often as possible.

Next week will be a great chance for us to bring our online exchanges into reality. So if you see a tweet that says, “Meet here for a drink,” I hope you’ll tweet back, “Be right there.”
