What makes a Top 100 dealer?

Next week (June 26) is our deadline for the 2017 Boating Industry Top 100, the only independent ranking of boat dealers in North America. For those of you thinking about applying, now is the time to get started!

I field a lot of questions about the Top 100 at press events and through interviews, and one that has come up several times this past year is that a dealer is “not large enough” to be considered. “How can we compete with a dealer like X?”

Certainly in scope, our industry has several large and small dealerships. But what makes a dealership of quality is rarely determined by its revenue or number of locations. Indeed, many of our Top 100 dealers – and Top 20 dealers – are small one-location businesses.

What makes them Top 100 is their focus on customer service, their business acumen, their drive to be better, their desire to share the boating lifestyle with everyone, and their treatment of employees. If your business is one that your customers and employees value enough to return to and stay employed in, you’re worth consideration for the Boating Industry Top 100.

The application is online, and can be saved and returned to as necessary. If you have any questions about the process or are concerned you may miss the deadline, feel free to reach out to anyone on the editorial team, including me.
